ENVS 190: Exploring Environmental Careers and Pathways

Course Description: Wondering how to turn your passion for the planet into a meaningful career? This course helps you explore the wide range of professional paths in the environmental field and chart your own course. Through guest speakers, hands-on activities, and real-world case studies, you’ll discover how people across sectors are addressing today’s most pressing environmental challenges—and where your skills and values can make a difference.
You’ll identify your strengths, clarify your goals, and develop practical career tools, including networking strategies, informational interviewing techniques, and resume-building tips. Learn directly from UCSB experts, alumni, and environmental professionals who are shaping the future of sustainability.
Environmental careers discussed in Winter 2026 may include environmental law, consulting and planning, environmental writing and communication, and regenerative economics. By the end of the course, you’ll have expanded your network, honed your professional toolkit, and gained a clearer sense of your place in the global movement for a more sustainable future.
This class is ideal for students from any major who are interested in exploring environmental career options after graduation. Offered by the Greti U. Croft Center for Undergraduate Environmental Leadership (CUEL) in collaboration with the UCSB Environmental Studies Program.
