Are you considering a career in environmental communications or creative writing? This session is for you. We'll discuss how effective storytelling can change hearts and minds; explore the climate fiction subgenre; and meet with writer and journalist, Omar El Akkad, whose novel WHAT STRANGE PARADISE won the 2021 Giller Price. Then, we'll workshop craft elements and explore writing techniques to make your fiction sing. Lecturer Rachel Lincoln Sarnoff holds a MA in journalism from USC and a MFA in creative writing from Pacific University; she has taught marketing and communications to CUEL's Environmental Leadership Incubator (ELI) students annually since 2020. Participants will have the opportunity to join an ongoing climate fiction writing workshop, which Rachel will host virtually beginning in 2025.
